Most of the cattle work done on the Open Spear Ranch is on horseback. Because of the strong pedigrees in our breeding program, we are able to raise quality horses with cow sense. Whether moving cattle to summer and winter pastures, roping calves at branding, or cutting a cow from the herd during calving, our horses never fail to get the job done! Not only does natural instinct play an important part in our ranch horses, but because they are raised in large open pastures in rough terrain they are not “barn sour” and are comfortable traveling on rocky hillsides, through creeks, etc. as well as having the stamina to cover long distances.
